There's something in the walls

I would like to formally invite you to the experience that is Literary Life Bookstore & More, Inc. Huh? You say. Well if you remember the Old Kent Bank on the corner of Wealthy and Eastern, you know the place. It's been renovated and turned into the dream-come-true of owner, physician Roni K. Devlin.

The feeling I get each time I walk in the store is this: gratitude from knowing I just walked in to a treasure trove, and satisfaction in knowing that whichever book I pick up, the friendly face behind the counter will be able to give me a rundown or advice for reading a new author (I really needed it with my first venture into Jane Austen's world through Mansfield Park). The vibe is cozy-you could sit with a book on your lap all day on the comfy couch in front of Lit Life's fireplace-and the store has a collection of titles from classics and autobiographies to a children's section and books specifically for writers (my favorite). And a gift section with the cutest little tea pots you've ever seen!

It's not just the fabulous selection or the beautiful store that pull me in to Lit Life, it's the passion of the people who work there. To them, it's not just a paycheck, it's a love and a way of life. They support the local community in any way they can, whether it's selling art made by kids from nearby schools, or banding up with other Wealthy Street businesses. They live and breathe the local life. Literally.
